Scotch Single Malt - Speyside - 2013
International Wine & Spirit Competition
Interesting fact… Glenfiddich 14 Year Old Rich Oak whisky spells its name whisky as it originates in Scotland. Had it been produced in America its name would be Glenfiddich 14 Year Old Rich Oak whiskey, instead of whisky.
Nose: Lots of oak influence. Very fruity, nutmeg, cinnamon, bourbon, fruits, dates.
Palate: Bourbon sweetness, with lots of general fruitiness, sublimely smooth.
Finish: Nutty and of good length, toasty, hints of char, fruity.
Firstly, I am by no means a connoisseur. I Picked this up recently at a local supermarket after reading some decent reviews. I absolutely love the Glenfiddich 15-year Solera, but this has left me wondering if I've somehow got a dud bottle, because it doesn't necessarily match the hype.
I love the 15 because of its quaffableness and very acidity and afterburn, but the 14 has a distinct "kick" to it, which doesn't sit well with my still-evolving palate. Don't get me wrong, in terms of tasting, it's still a very accomplished whisky; it has a lot of depth and complexity, and has all the characteristics of a Glenfiddich, but it's just too harsh for me.
Bottom line: If you want a top Glenfiddich, get the 15-year Solera. It may be more expensive, but it's worth it in my opinion.

As title suggests Mmmmmm

Interesting nose, very smooth on the palate but light on the after taste - subtle leather and spice. I think this will be good in company but a bit boring for indulging on one's own. Perhaps my older palate and taste for chilli dishes has dulled my appreciation of the gentle and sophisticated. I like more of a kick. Should appeal to younger and possibly female tastes.

Having tried Glenfiddich's 12, 15 and 18 year old whiskys, and not liking any of them enough to wish buying a bottle for myself, I was pleasantly surprised when I found their 14 yr rich oak really appealed to my taste buds...I really enjoyed it and will definitely be adding a bottle to my collection!

Although I'd agree with the few that say something is missing here, it's good stuff but it's just 1 fry short of a happy meal. Got this quite cheap in the supermarket so as an experiment I'm sticking it into a master of malt 1L cask for a bit. See if I can bring that extra little something to it. The cask has already been used a few times so should be kind and gentle to this otherwise good whisky. All that said it's quite different to your usual Glenfiddich range so I'd still recommend trying it.

I bought this in a supermarket today as it was on offer. Its very mellow and the vanilla really comes through. Even my mrs liked it and she doesnt really like whisky. I drink whisky sparingly as its expensive but feel this may dissapear quite quickly. Much nicer than the standard 12 year old. I bought an 18 year old special reserve a few christmases ago and for me no other glenfiddich has come close (within affordable price range of course) and as that one is no longer available I think ive found a new favourite!!! And yes. I do only buy glenfiddich. I drink many whiskys at bars or at friends/families houses. Some are very nice. But I like glenfiddich. I know what im getting.

The comment by Sued Buster shows a lack of understanding of what dry means. It means on the opposite end of the spectrum compared to sweet. So something can be dry and watery or sweet and watery (albeit in that case not very sweet, but definitely not dry). Go back to kindergarten indeed....

it's pleasant enough, and if you like the smell of freshly sawn oak it's one for you, but I agree with the 'Something doesn't quite click' post above. this whisky is what id call above adequate but not top notch. IMHO the 18yo is the best in the Glenfiddich range (that ive tried so far) so would recommend that instead of this expression or the solera

I recommend this whisky for anyone who gets on well with the 12 year single malt who wants to explore whisky further, it goes down very well and has similarities to the 12 year old but with enough difference to make it special. Masterofmalt prices are great so don't miss out, I will be getting in more of this.

This is a very nice, smooth, single-malt. A decent price on a great whisky! A.Gray

Just a touch mind.
This has to be one of my favourites. Very smooth and rich. Nearly finished my first bottle of this. There will definitely be more!

Glenfiddich has a habit of being ignored in Whisky circles because of its popularity abroad, but they make excellent stuff...this offering is top notch, being about 15 years old, and with a Bourbon finish...it must be pretty darn good as I am on my 2nd bottle...

Sensational Malt, one of my favorites, smooth fruity, long life, vanilla mixed with stewed pip fruits I could go on I'm already a Glenfiddich fan. I would and have recommend this to any serious whisky nut !

The reviewer immediately above is an idiot. How can something be too watery and too dry at the same time? Go back to kindergarten.

The nose on this is enticing - different from other Glenfiddichs with lots of spicy undertones. The palate however doesn't do it for me - too watery and too dry, with none of the gentle sweetness the nose promised. I prefer the standard 12 year-old Glenfiddich to this - but if you want a top Glenfiddich, get the 15.

Can't decide between dessert or a whiskey after dinner? You can have both! This is a delightfuly smooth and sweet whiskey, and your non whiskey drinking friends will seriously think twice about the joys of a dram.
