Distillers' Single Malts 12 years and under - 2014
International Spirits Challenge
Scotch Single Malt - Highland - 2014
International Wine & Spirit Competition
Insider knowledge: Old Pulteney Navigator whisky is named whisky by virtue of the fact it's from Scotland. If distilled in America the spelling would be Old Pulteney Navigator whiskey, as opposed to whisky.
Nose: Sweet, succulent apple lashings with dollops of chocolate and vanilla.
Palate: Drips of honey and syrup-y orange.
Finish: A salty finish sneaks up from nowhere, very nice.
Overall: Set sail for tasty single malt!
Personally, I would rank this one higher than the 12y, despite a lack of age statement. I don't know if it's the "hand picked" casks that make the difference here, but this was a surprisingly delicious dram for the price (about $44USD) and I finished the bottle in about 3 days as a result. If you like Old Pulteney 12, definitely give this one a try.
