Poit Dhubh 8 Year Old
A blended malt, Poit Dhubh is a mellow, lightly peated whisky that comprises mostly of Talisker, which reflects the fact its parent company, Pràban, is based on the Isle of Skye. The remainder of the blend is composed of various Speyside malts which imparts and matured partly in sherry casks which lends it they typically rich flavours you would expect.
Poit Dhubh si pronounced "potch ghoo" and means "black pot", which is the gaelic term for an "illicit still".
It comes unchilfiltered at 43%.
Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt
Nose
Subdued peat, quite earthy. Dried fruit and a pleasing nuttiness. Some date and rasin notes.
Palate
A subtle but very deep peatiness which runs throughout. Soft honey and caramel notes with some polite spice and fruit. A hint of maritime salinity.
Finish
Medium-length with some heat.
Overall
Nicely structured, deep and mellow with lots to offer.
