Interesting fact… Master of Malt 12 Year Old Islay whisky spells its name whisky as it originates in Scotland. Had it been produced in America its name would be Master of Malt 12 Year Old Islay whiskey, instead of whisky.
Tasting notes from Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2009: Nose: 23.5/25 huge peat reek, the like of which I’ve never come across before; Taste: 23.5/25 a flamboyant marriage of massive peat and soft honey tones; Finish: 24/25 wave upon wave of extraordinary smoke… Balance: 24/25 actually, I lie. There is barely any peat at all, save for a gust of peat reek which hovers unspectacular above the stunning honey notes and then muscles in hardly noticed when no-one’s looking. Those on the prowl for a massively peated dram will be disappointed. Those hunting a very gently, almost covertly, smoked malt which appears completely relaxed with its honeycomb and barley constitution and its dependency on complexity will be delighted.
