Nose: Biscuits and almonds with milky fresh hazelnut. Pronounced vanilla and heather honey, St Clement's marmalade and crystallised tropical fruit.
Palate: Soft, light brown sugar sweetness and very subtly spiced. There's more of those crystallised fruit notes, particularly pineapple, with the sweetness balanced by oaky tannins. The mouthfeel is wonderfully all-encompassing, very chewy indeed.
Finish: Sweet marmalade that turns dryer before the end with distinct woody notes.
Overall: A very refined old whisky with great, thick depths to explore.
