Glengoyne 1972 Spirit Safe Bottling Note
A rare 1972 vintage from Glengoyne, packaged in a glass fronted lockable safe. All spirit stills have a brass bound, glass walled container which allows the distiller to analyse the spirit coming off the stills, the safe is padlocked to prevent the distiller actually coming into contact with the spirit. Originally, only an Exciseman would keep the key, to prevent anyone taking spirit from the still without paying tax.
The nose is very rich and thick. There are notes of juicy fruits, exotic fruit salad, foam bananas, Cox’s apple peel and sweet herbs. There is a tangy citrus note with a touch of lush peach and fudge. The palate is of medium-body with a silken smooth delivery. There are notes of arak and fennel, sweet fruitcake notes with winter spice and lemon marmalade. There are some oily nut notes with a touch of marzipan. The finish is of medium-length with drying wood and marmalade.
