Glen Avon 1953 G&M Bottling Note
A single malt from an unnamed distillery, bottled under Gordon and MacPhail's Glen Avon label. Distilled in 1953, this was matured in first fill sherry hogsheads. The result is a full bodied, fruity whisky.
The nose is quite rich and full. There are some beautiful marmalade notes with juicy orange and zest, a touch of cut herbs and a dry hay note. There is a lovely fresh green note despite the age. The palate is full-bodied with a lovely richness. There are notes of gentle peat, a touch of smoke hanging over lush stone fruits and Madeira. The finish is long and well-balanced with a hint of peat and a lovely sweetness.
