What's in a name? Caol Ila 33 Year Old 1980 - Authentic Collection (WM Cadenhead) whisky is called whisky because it's produced in Scotland. Were it from America it would be spelled Caol Ila 33 Year Old 1980 - Authentic Collection (WM Cadenhead) whiskey, rather than whisky.
I feel pretty sure this is quality stuff, though somehow not quite my style. Very peaty (well, what did you expect??) on the nose (and palate). I can't quite tell what else I detect on the nose---is that heather? Richly warming (ok, that's mostly the 58.2% abv) and full bodied. Sweeter than I would have thought for a Caol Ila. I think it deserves 9 or 10 stars, even though I wouldn't buy a full bottle (I bought the 3 cl sample). Very long finish.
