Whisky or Whiskey

What's in a name? Caol Ila 30 Year Old - Single Cask (Master of Malt) whisky is called whisky because it's produced in Scotland. Were it from America it would be spelled Caol Ila 30 Year Old - Single Cask (Master of Malt) whiskey, rather than whisky.

Caol Ila 30 Single Cask Bottling Note

An unbelievably good single cask Caol Ila that was so good we put our name on it! This was distilled in 1980 and aged in a single refill hogshead before bottling in 2010. A release of just 154 bottles at natural cask strength - non chill-filtered of course!

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Passion fruit and mango sorbet to the front of the nose is abruptly cut with vanilla and cigar smoke. This is very moreish and sat in the glass developing big tropical fruits, wood spice, dark rum and a sneaky bit of lobster in hot butter to the end.

Palate: Huge wood and vanilla repeats across the tongue. Slight clementine and rum soaked pineapple.

Finish: Effortlessly graceful with butter toffee, rum spice and stewed fruit.

Amazing

This is great dram. Especially on the nose. Love the smell of passion fruit and with combination with other fruits is stunning. Wood and vanilla on the palate with fruits and beautiful finish again with fruits - coming through the whisky. Love that

A happy dram

Rating (4.5)

Nose: Quite clean and soft on the nose, salty, peaty and some citrus tones Mouth: Lovely, this Caol Ila makes me really happy. A warm, strong, tight sweetness. Lots of sugar, citrus and peat. Thinking of summer with lots of nice colours of apple. Finish: Keeps me warm for a long time, nice, warm beech wood smoke. Summary: A really great whisky for such a price. A thick and really nice whisky with a great balance. Jens Wedin, chwisgi.com
