A Mackillop's Choice bottling of 30 year old single cask Caol Ila. This was distilled in 1981 and bottled in early 2012. It's cask strength and non-chill filtered.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Just a hint of woodsmoke, and a touch of peat... it's smells very sweet with butterscotch overtones and surprisingly fresh apple and pear notes.

Palate: Very soft and buttery, with smooth, refined, peat. White pepper and sweet lemon.

Finish: A smoky, citric dryness.

Overall: A delicate, sophisticated Caol Ila that demonstrates there's a lot more to this distillery than peat.

User Reviews of the Caol Ila 30 Year Old 1981 - Mackillops

The good stuff

Starting off on the nose I noticed the peat first even though it wasn't that strong, then a slightly syrupy aroma, wisps of flowers, some other aromas I can't quite identify. On the palate, it's Wow! immediate recognition of quality.again, first I note the peat, though again not overbearing, followed by peppery spices, leathery touches, some sweetness. It's delicious. Upon the swallow, the pepper fades immediately, and I note cinnamon, flowers, some other unidentified notes. It's good. The peat lingers still. Yeah. Good stuff.

Very Nice Old Islay. Sweet, spicy, fruity... Similar to Port Ellen 9th, imho
