This whisky hails from the illustrious Islay distillery of Ardbeg - that sits on the island’s Southern coast and produces its highly peated malt whisky. Ardbeg closed in July 1996, thankfully the distillery was bought by Glenmorangie plc in 1997 and the distillery now produces some of the most iconic whisky available today. This Ardbeg from ‘That Boutique-y Whisky Company’ boasts plenty of salt and smoke for all of your peaty needs.

‘That Boutique-y Whisky Company’ bottles single malts, blended malts and blends from a variety of renowned distilleries. These whiskies are adorned with cultish comic book-style labels.

This label features Geert Bero (perhaps the world’s most famous Ardbeg Collector and proprietor of the world-famous Ardbeg bar at Hotel Bero) looking more than a little like Gollum from Lord of the Rings. What’s he reaching for though? It’s the Ardbeg Spirit Purifier – the device that holds the power to create the delicious whisky he craves. #Precious#.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Big salty peat chased by twirling vanilla and espresso. Hot on the heels are oranges and lemons with leather and malty cereal notes bringing up the rear.

Palate: A dazzling flavour of acacia honey on peat smoked oatcakes with slices of lemon and orange placed on top.

Finish: On the finish we have classic Ardbeg: sea salted caramel, tidal waves of smoke and black coffee.

Overall: This Ardbeg delivers what’s expected alongside honeyed sweetness, citrus vitality and earthy coffee.

Meaty and Rich

A huge whisky. Very powerfull and Peaty.

Overhyped

Ardbeg is way too overhyped today. Sooner or later, they will begin to lower their standards because of huge demand.

Maltstock Sample

This is hot. Flavour-wise I mean. There's a lot going on, but the mixture of (I guess) old and young Ardbeg works out remarkable well in this one. Not badly priced either!

Solid ardbeg.

The tasting notes are pretty dead on. The nose seems older than the palate to be honest, but both are good. The nose just seems smoother and more well rounded, although it tastes delicious as well. I think considering the limited quantity of this type of release, and the quality of ardbeg in general, it is fairly priced. It's good whisky. The strength is just right too (although I assume it is cask strength), but it would be nice to see NON CHILL FILTERED and NATURAL COLOUR on what is otherwise a great label.

Nose is very different from the palate. It goes from heavy, smooth, and rich to young with a big bite.
