The stills of the Glenglassaugh distillery fell silent in November of 1986. Following the closure, a handful of official bottlings have been released. In 2008, the Dutch-based Scaent Group acquired the distillery for £5 million and reopened it in November of that year....

1873

– The distillery is founded by Glenglassaugh Distillery Company. The total cost is £10,000.

1887

Alexander Morrison embarks on renovation work including new stills and other equipment.

1892

Alexander Morrison, the sole survivor of the original founders, sells the distillery to one of his customers, Robertson & Baxter. They in turn sell it on to Highland Distilleries Company for £15,000.

1908

The distillery closes.

1931

The distillery reopens.

1936

The distillery closes.

1957

– Substantial reconstruction, including acquisition of new stills, takes place. Own maltings are abandoned and the malt is bought from Tamdhu Distillery instead.

1960

The distillery reopens.

1986

Glenglassaugh is mothballed in November.

2005

A 22 year old is released.

2006

Three limited editions are released - 19 years old, 38 years old and 44 years old.

2008

The Distillery is bought by the Scaent Group for £5m.
