2019 Vintage Whisky
Whisky, climate change protests and black holes
Greta Thunberg and youth activists worldwide brought attention to climate change, with millions participating in global strikes. The first image of a black hole was captured, a monumental moment for astrophysics. Events marked the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, reminiscing unity and the end of the Cold War era.
Despite these serious events, whisky provided a source of enjoyment and investment. Macallan’s Edition No. 5 was released to much fanfare, focusing on the art of natural color achieved through their choice of casks. Compass Box's No Name No. 2 also received high praise, showcasing the blender's ability to craft complex, nuanced whiskies from various distilleries.
In the world of independent bottlers, Chapter 7 released some outstanding single casks, each representing a 'chapter' in the life of a distillery, adding narrative depth to each bottle. Another indie bottler, Blackadder, gained notoriety for their Raw Cask series, which included remnants of the cask in each bottle, providing an incredibly authentic whisky experience. As the 2010s came to a close, the whisky industry remained vibrant and innovative, offering a variety of flavors, ages, and styles to suit any palate.
