If your search for smoky island whisky usually begins and ends on Islay, Mull would like a word. Ledaig is the peated side of Tobermory Distillery, and this 10-year-old is its briny, earthy calling card. Soft smoke meets pepper, charred oak, dried fruit and a medicinal touch at a generous 46.3% ABV. Familiar enough to satisfy a peat craving, distinctive enough to stand on its own two feet.

Same distillery, entirely different personality. Tobermory 12 Year Old leaves the peat to Ledaig and puts the spotlight on fruit instead. American oak preserves all this pear, peach, orange peel, and apple then gives it vanilla fudge, cinnamon pastries and buttery goodness to mingle with. Dangerously easy to return to, it is a bright introduction to Mull with no ferry timetable.

Peated whisky, Caribbean rum casks and Mexican Tequila casks. All the hits. Ledaig Castaway is a pretty singular whisky that combines coastal smoke and peppery peat with grilled pineapple, caramelised banana, herbal agave, lime and dark toffee. Bottled at a formidable 61.1% ABV, approach with a little water and a suitable sense of adventure.

Here's what you could win:
One winner and their guest will travel to the Isle of Mull from 18 to 20 June 2027, attending Tobermory Distillery day at the West Highland Whisky Festival on Saturday 19 June.
The prize includes:
- Economy return travel from a main commercial airport or train station in mainland UK to the Isle of Mull
- Return transfers between the arrival point and hotel
- Two nights’ hotel accommodation on Mull, based on two people sharing a double or twin room
- Two tickets to the West Highland Whisky Festival
- Access to selected festival events, currently being finalised
The hardest part will be leaving.
