The very first ever release of single malt whisky from the Kilchoman distillery. This Inaugural Release was aged for between 2.5 and 3 years in bourbon casks, before being finished for 6 months in sherry casks. Very good indeed. Malt Advocate rated it with 92 points.
Nose: Very spicy and oily. Notes of coal tar, soot and creosote. Shoe polish, blackcurrant, aniseed, sultanas and toffee.
Palate: Rich, oily. Malt, spices, raisins, apple peels, citrus, vanilla sweetness and barrel char.
Finish: Balanced, rich, oily, hints of aniseed, caramel and intense oaky spices.

I bought a bottle of this to treat myself whilst coming through Amsterdam at the airport fine spirits outlet in 2013. I have been drinking malts for 15 years and had never had a whisky this young, or expensive. It was around 2.5 times the price I had ever paid for a bottle and I instructed the gentleman to "just sell it to me quickly before I change my mind". I was not disappointed at all; I was expecting it to be quite harsh, but instead found it to be incredibly smooth and complex. It was a very characteristic Islay malt, with a lovely warm lingering finish. I would recommend you to add it to your collection if you come across it. I am a believer that malts are to be drunk and enjoyed and of the phrase "when it's gone, it's gone;" it didn't last long at all. I shared it with friends and family and we enjoyed and savoured every drop. Producing this whisky was a very smart move by the distillery as it has whet my appetite for their releases for years to come. They certainly entered the scene with a blindingly good malt.Peter, January 2015

This 3yo single malt is really incredible. I tried this one last week on Islay. The taste is very complex for such a young Whisky. Since no bottle of this release is available in Europe, I will buy the 5yo vintage release. Congratulation to everybody, who have bottle of the very fine 'Inaugural Release'.
