North of Scotland Whisky

The North of Scotland Distillery has a special place in Scotland's whisky history. It is in the village of Tullibody, near Alloa. This distillery started focusing on grain whisky, important for many Scottish blended whiskies.

It began in 1957, during the post-war Scotch whisky boom. The industry was growing, and so was the demand for grain whisky. The founders used a continuous column still, different from malt whisky pot stills. This method produces more whisky faster, ideal for the increasing market.

The North of Scotland Distillery was known for innovation. In the 1960s, they made a unique single grain whisky with malted barley. This was both new and a nod to traditional malt whisky.

However, the distillery faced challenges. Market changes and industry consolidations led to its closure in 1980. This was just over twenty years after opening. The buildings were later used for other purposes. The original whisky became rare and sought after.

Today, bottles from this distillery are collector's items. The whisky is light, floral, and sweet, like tropical fruits. It is a treat for those lucky enough to try it.
