North Of Scotland 40 Year Old 1973 (cask 10232) - Directors' Cut (Douglas Laing)

A Douglas Laing bottling of some very old single grain Scotch whisky from the North Of Scotland. All the way back in October 1973, the folks at North Of Scotland set a cask full of their single grain to mature. A massive 40 years later, in March 2014, the cask was opened and the whisky was bottled with an outturn of only 69 bottles.

    Thought I was drinking Bouurbon!

Never tried any previous versions of this distillery so hard to know if this is always this corn rich in style? Sweet & aromatic, toasted oak & spicy with some dark honeycomb, chocolate & crepe Suzzette like notes but nothing here you could not find in a £40-£50 Bouurbon.Single grain whisky is still a style I am yet to be convinced by, especially as this at 40 years old lacks any real complexity regardless of the price or rarity. The Whisky Flaneur

    Underwhelming

Lacks any distinction, can only compare to bottles a fifth of the price.
