Here's two grape varieties that you don't see together very often: Lagrein from Northern Italy and Sangiovese from Tuscany. But in Australia, anything goes, so those mad fellas at Zonte's Footsteps have only gone and done it. And the results are very impressive. The blend is 85% Sangiovese and the rest Lagrein, which provides freshness. Think of all those lovely bittersweet cherry flavours you'd find in Chianti but with a big Aussie generosity and much softer tannins. This would be absolutely delicious with tomato-based Italian food like spaghetti puttanesca.
Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt
This majors on dark cherries, leather and rosemary with a velvety smooth mouthfeel and ripe tannins.
