Laphroaig's Brodir single malt Scotch whisky was originally released to the Travel Retail market. You can probably guess what 'Brodir' means in ancient Norse - of course, it's 'Brother'.
For this expression, the Islay distillers first matured the whisky in ex-bourbon barrels before transferring it over to casks which previous held Ruby Port. The combination of Laphroaig's classic coastal peaty gorgeousness with the elegance of the Ruby Port finish make Brodir a very handsome dram indeed.
Nose: Fresh honey drizzled over dried tropical fruit, followed by a salty sea breeze.
Palate: Quite refreshing and light (for a Laphroaig). Continued fruitiness on the palate, somewhat juicier than the nose might suggest. Smoke pops up a little later.
Finish: Rich smoke on the finish grows and grows.

This port cask finish malt is ridiculously gorgeous. Talisker Portruigh (which was my favourite all time single malt) has just been overtaken by the Laphroaig Brodir. Well worth the extra few quid.David Thomson Islay Fanatic

Really good whisky, maybe not worth the price but one of the best laphroaigs I've had.

I love the way this one reverses the palate experience compared to a standard Laphroaig. The peat is nowhere at first giving way to sweetness and fruitcake. Then the smoke starts to grow and grow. And then it lingers a bit more. Beautiful

This whiskey contains the classic, tasty underpinnings of Laphroaig 10 year old but with the added dimensions of a sweetness from the bourbon and port influence. The smoke builds quickly into a bold punch after a subtle start of fruit and sweet but ends with more sweet vanilla and cinnamon. I don't think I've ever tasted a whiskey with such complexity of flavors that did so well to balance the smoke and sweetness. It was like tasting a liquid of cascading tasting notes that didn't end until long after the drink ended.

A great showing of how port casks can enhance flavours without completely overtaking the whisky. There’s definitely berries in there, as well as chocolate but there’s still a whole lot of peat smoke, vanilla, sea breeze and tar as well.

This is not for you Kentucky bourbon folks. Geez, educate yourself on what you are drinking. You gotta' love burning band-aids and peat. A more gentlemanly version of the 2013 Portwood Cairdeas.

It's dry with a pinch of sweetness. Very pure and clean. I think this could be a good step for wine drinker to move to smoky whiskies. Brodir is not as sweet and complex as Quarter cask is, but it's not scaring peatmonster like 10 is either. Good, dry whisky for as an side dish with sweet cocktail.

It's a shame that this is shipped in the traditional green bottle, as the colour of the whisky is absolutely spectacular. This bottle is pretty much what you would expect from a Port cask Laphroaig: the traditionally peaty tones of the distillery are dialed down somewhat and mix quite nicely with the sweetness from the cask, producing a wonderfully warm palate and gentle, smoky finish. They are definitely reaching a bit with their price point. It would be a top-notch choice at their usual bottle price for the NAS releases, but here you're definitely paying its value - and then a little - for what is admittedly quite a fine dram.

Great dram although a serious price for a bottle. I love the "light" flavor before the finish hits home. Beautiful building of smokiness after a lovely deep flavor and nose. Take your time drinking it, it's worth it.

I'm a fan of Kentucky bourbon and other whiskeys. Not a fan of this. A very strong smokey flavor. Don't taste honey. Too many other good bourbons and whiskeys at a much better prices and better flavor.

Phenomenal. You know how a standard 10yr Laphroaig has that huge, unabashedly bold and peaty flavor? That stuff has great flavor, but it ends roughly, like a branch snapped off the tree. When it hits the tongue, Brodir has that same trademark Laphroaig flavor, but then the port delicately starts to blend in, and provides a superbly smooth and carefully sweet finish that complements the strong peat and smoke. You can taste the grapes providing that sweetness, but it's far from overpowering, and the whiskey is still unmistakably Laphroaig. I have tasted the 10 year, 18 year, Lore, Select, and Brodir. Brodir is the sweetest of the bunch, and despite the dynamic and phenomenal Lore, is still my favorite.

Big fan of Laphroaig, but this one takes the crown. Incredibly balanced scotch, with the peat and the port working together incredibly. If I had to summarize this whisky I'd say that it's a dram that warms the soul.

Just delicious. The peat and the port work really well together and lingers long in the finish.
