Scotland
Highland Wineries

Mead, one of the oldest alcoholic drinks in history, has seen quite the resurgence recently (find out more about that over on our blog)! Moniack Mead is a traditional honey mead, produced at Moniack Castle by Highland Wineries, through the process of fermenting honey. A fun mead fact: traditionally, after a wedding the bride and groom were given enough mead to last then one month, which is where the term ‘honeymoon’ came from!
Smooth and warming with a certain dryness, prominent honey and caramel flavours without being overly sweet, along with light floral notes.

Never tasted Mead before but this was a pleasant surprise ! Great honey flavours, sweet but not too sweet, and nice warming feeling in the tum. I will definitely be back for more soon. Full marks from me !
I stumbled upon this hidden gem of Scotland while traveling, and it has frankly ruined me for other meads. Unlike the weak, pale yellow meads that the US offers, Moniack is similar to a port wine in color and viscosity. I have had few occasions to import it to the US but I have considered it well worth the shipping.
Moniac among the vast campers I camp with is known as the best mead. Other meads so far don't come close and I am a connoisseur of meads, being aquanted with lyme bay, lindisfarne and lurghashalls lovely blends aswell as cornish and various others.
I'd never tasted mead before, so i can't say how this compares to others. But i love it, even though i don't really like regular wine.
I'm not a connoisseur but I did not really like the smell or taste of this mead. It reminded me of liquid, rotting fruit - though still in the acceptable range. The most enjoyable thing about drinking this mead is the buzz it gives.
