Highland Wineries

Mead, one of the oldest alcoholic drinks in history, has seen quite the resurgence recently (find out more about that over on our blog)! Moniack Mead is a traditional honey mead, produced at Moniack Castle by Highland Wineries, through the process of fermenting honey. A fun mead fact: traditionally, after a wedding the bride and groom were given enough mead to last then one month, which is where the term ‘honeymoon’ came from!
Smooth and warming with a certain dryness, prominent honey and caramel flavours without being overly sweet, along with light floral notes.

this stuff is the best. I will be stocking up for special occasions, it went down a storm!
I have tried several meads over the last few years. I was ecstatic to receive a bottle of Moniack for Yule this year. I have to say I was bitterly disappointed. It was overly sweet (in a sugary way) to the point of wondering if they added honey after the fermentation process was killed by sulfiting it. And speaking of bitter what kind of crap honey was used to begin with is beyond me but the taste of it was absolutely horrid. I will never by a Mead made by Moniack again and if gifted a bottle will promptly pour it down the toilet where it belongs.
I bought a bottle of this in Scotland while backpacking in 2004, and only opened it up a month or so ago. It was gone in 3 days. Delicious, absolutely delicious. Far better than any mead I've found here in the USA. Many thanks to Master Of Malt for having it, and offering international shipping!
First Scottish mead I've tried, fantastic colour, taste and speedy delivery.
This was the first bottle of mead I ever bought - and the best. I have a bottle of Lindisfarne Mead and some Danish versions (they are mixed with beer) of mead. But Moniack beats them hands down!
