Gaia Wines
Gaia Estate is a prominent winery in Greece, established in 1994 by agronomists Yiannis Paraskevopoulos and Leon Karatsalos. The winery is committed to showcasing the potential of indigenous Greek grape varieties and operates two winemaking facilities: one in Nemea, on the Peloponnese peninsula, and another on the island of Santorini.
In Nemea, Gaia focuses primarily on the Agiorgitiko grape, producing wines that highlight the variety's potential for both freshness and ageing capability. On Santorini, Gaia is renowned for its exceptional work with Assyrtiko, a grape that thrives in the island’s volcanic soils and produces crisp, mineral, and intensely aromatic white wines. The Santorini vineyard is particularly notable for its ancient, ungrafted vines and the traditional basket training system used to protect grapes from the fierce Aegean winds.
