A delicious primitivo from Salento in the far south of Italy, Puglia. This is the same grape as California's Zinfandel. It gets very hot down there and the resulting wines can be massive in fruit and alcohol. This one, however, is nicely fresh with lowish alcohol for the region, only 13.5%. A little time in bottle has mellowed it and brought a nutty cherry pip quality.
Lovely nose, cherries, floral, aromatic and fresh. Bittersweet cherries on the palate, furry tannins and nutty cherry pip notes, and a touch of dried fruit on the finish.
