We were wowed by Produttori's 2016 Barbarescos when they landed at MoM last year and now it's the turn of the Riservas. These are wines that have been kept back for another year of ageing to further develop flavours. 2016 was a stunning vintage, so there's plenty of fruit here underneath the firm tannins. There's no problem opening this now if you decant but true Barbaresco magic awaits those who can hang on for five or ten years. But who has the patience?
Red cherries, rose petals and a hint of mushrooms jump out on the nose, on the palate those tannins are firm but not aggressive with Turkish delight, cherries and a little nuttiness lurking underneath. Classic Barbaresco.
