The mashbill for Woodford Reserve features a high percentage of rye: 72% corn, 18% rye and 10% malt. The whiskey is also unusual for being triple distilled and having the lowest proof upon entering the barrel where it matures for at least six years. A must have Kentucky bourbon. Makes a wonderful Old-Fashioned cocktail!
Quite thick and creamy. There are notes of honey and spice, leather, a touch of cocoa, a little smoke, toasty oak and vanilla cream with a hint of butterscotch.
Thick and full. There are notes of espresso beans, winter spice, cereal sweetness, plenty of rye, ground ginger, almond oil, toasty oak and a little rum.
Long and mature with notes of cereals and toasty oaken spice.

Bloody Delicious
Well, I have tried to like this one but it’s just too thin and astringent, with very few redeeming qualities. I just can’t understand the rave reviews. It dries out the mouth, leaving a simplistic undertone of sweetness. It has a thin, one-dimensional body. The aftertaste is quite nice but that doesn’t make up for the deficiencies in all other departments. Perhaps if this were single distilled there would be something pleasant to taste.
I remember buying malt whisky from Master of Malt in the ‘90s. In those days, the customer would select from a paper catalogue, and order by telephone. Well, times change. :) The website provides plenty of information about the products, and ordering was easy. Shipping was prompt, and I’m delighted with the smoke-and-honey flavour of the Woodford Reserve bourbon. Excellent quality of service from Master of Malt, consistently over a period of thirty years.
N: A tabacco orange. P: Like eating a pack of opal fruits all at the same time. Daft sweet fireworks. A: Sweet wooded spice, warming lingers about.
There is only one cocktail for me, the Whiskey Old Fashioned. There is only one bourbon for it, Woodford Reserve. I’ve tried them all, Wild Turkey, Beam, Bulleitt, Four Roses, Tin Cup, you name it. And although there’s some 8/10, some 9/10, there’s only one 10/10! Woodford.
