The mashbill for Woodford Reserve features a high percentage of rye: 72% corn, 18% rye and 10% malt. The whiskey is also unusual for being triple distilled and having the lowest proof upon entering the barrel where it matures for at least six years. A must have Kentucky bourbon. Makes a wonderful Old-Fashioned cocktail!
Quite thick and creamy. There are notes of honey and spice, leather, a touch of cocoa, a little smoke, toasty oak and vanilla cream with a hint of butterscotch.
Thick and full. There are notes of espresso beans, winter spice, cereal sweetness, plenty of rye, ground ginger, almond oil, toasty oak and a little rum.
Long and mature with notes of cereals and toasty oaken spice.
Harsh tastes like burned wood over priced
A first taste. My previous experience of Bourbon is confined to Whiskey Sours made with simple Kentucky Whiskey decades ago when I lived in the USA. I have quite a collection of Malt Whiskies and love them but this was a fascinating introduction to decent Bourbon. Easy drinking with sweet, spicy complexity. My initial reaction was ‘gingerbread’ with brown sugar, honey and spice (cinnamon etc.). Too easy to drink. My wife actually liked it (she won’t touch a Malt) which is significant. I enjoyed it a lot and will consider it over time and explore its complexity in more detail over time.
Novice bourbon drinker here so don't put too much faith in my review. I like this but it does have a strong first taste that does stay with you for a while. It could become a firm favourite if I stuck with it. I still personally prefer Buffalo Trace for a daily drinker.
Notes of banana, brown sugar and light oak. Taste of vanilla, caramel, pepper, cinnamon, oak . Finish is hot for the proof, vanilla, cinnamon spice.
Just about the best value Whisky I have ever purchased. Normally a single malt drinker but fancied something different and was not disappointed. All the feels and for £25. Miracle stuff.
