Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Quite light and well-balanced. There is a certain freshness, pertained from notes of cut hay and straw, barley sugars and herbs, notes of cereals and melted salty butter on granary toast.

    Palate

Medium-bodied with a richness. There are notes of gentle wood smoke and barley sugars, a farmy note with hints of hay and a roots with a touch of cereal sweetness and caramel.

    Finish

    Long and slightly herbal.

So sorry to read some of the negative comments re this whisky. I feel it lives up to the distillers description and you expect Islay whisky to be peaty in taste. Excellent value for money. Just a thought are they true whisky drinkers and are they adding a touch of spring water to release the bouquet and taste as is recommended by the experts?

Like Lavagulin, but a lot cheaper.

If you taste them clean, you can tell that this is rawer and less complex than Lavagulin, like a brash young cousin to a suave man about town. But after a couple of glasses you really cannot tell the difference - this is a big, unsubtle, flavoursome single malt for a budget price, and the best whisky you can buy for less than £20.

    Mr Anthony Hutchinson

I'm sorry to say that I found this Whisky, purchased at Morrison's in Bishop Auckland, undrinkable. I experienced none of the 'freshness, peaty, straw or cereal notes mentioned above, more a 'thinners' flavour commonly used on paint brushes. This clear whisky went slightly cloudy after opening and couldn't be drank even when drowned in dry ginger.

Two thirds Lagavulin for half the price

And thats not a bad ratio indeed.

A very good whisky in its own right, whatever its critics say. It's young, it's boldly peated, it's not the most complex malt. To those whose palates are more accustomed to older whiskies are much higher price-points, it may seem uninspiring. However, that doesn't mean that this isn't a well-crafted product, created with skill and dedication to quality. No-one is being deceived at the price, which represents excellent value for money.
