Tincup American Whiskey is made with a mashbill of rye, corn and malt, devised by Jess Graber - who's been playing around with distilling for the past 30 years and decided to make it his full time job. It's brought down to bottling strength using Colorado Rocky Mountain water. The name comes from gold miners in Colorado, who used to drink their whiskey from a tin cup - as such, the lid of Tincup American Whiskey can be used as a drinking vessel.
Couldn’t source this for my brother in law for Christmas who tells us it’s his fav, until I was sent to #WhiskySanta and Master of Malt. So pleased that I ordered 2 bottles and a bottle of Tyrconnel 43% for myself. We’ll be back for more now that we know where to go.
Not bad. Better than I thought - have given it a wide berth for many years but finally gave in due to the launch hype of the travel version. I reckon the 10 and 14 year old versions will be better though? I’ll pick them up in the States this Autumn.
This was bought for me as a present after I’d pretty much sworn off whiskey but in a very pleasant surprise it went down really nicely. I paired it with fancy cola, dandelion & burdock and also ginger ale & ginger wine… All went down very smoothly.
There's a comment below entitled "Somehow great...don't know why!" which I think I may have written. I honestly can't remember, but it reads like something I'd have written. Anyway, I heartily agree with it. I tried Tincup, expecting a bourbon kind of flavour, and was really disappointed. Then I drank it without thinking about what I'd maybe hoped for, and it was spectacular. It's...just...whiskey. Or maybe whisky. It's like whiskey's greatest hits. Get your 'oooh, not sure about that...' reaction out of the way when it doesn't tick any of your obvious boxes, then come at it objectively.
Picked this up at a supermarket I rarely frequent for a good price as a punt. Well.... never judge a book by its cover..... thats what i say now. Really good. I reckon in a blind tasting you'd have folks thinking is this a bourbon or is it a Midleton release? Good stuff. I'd definitely buy this again. Jason Breen
