A blended whisky from the Kaikyo Distillery, the Hatozaki blend sees the marriage of both malt and grain whiskies, including whisky distilled in Japan and imported stocks. The whisky is named after the Hatozaki lighthouse, the oldest lighthouse in Japan. The liquid is aged in many different cask types, including sherry, bourbon and Mizunara oak, imparting a complex flavour profile.
Light, sweet malty aromas alongside more cereal notes and fragrant lemongrass. Fruity notes of nectarine and banana appear.
Grain sweetness, a touch of honey and barrel char, with more stone fruit and orange blossom.
An oily nuttiness appears on the finish alongside more cereal notes.
Smooth, light whisky with a nice soft sweetness
I’ve tried many fine whiskeys and bourbons, this really is a delight for those who want a whiskey that is easy to drink with plenty of flavour. Highly recommend if you’re not a so called connoisseur.
Given a bottle of this as a birthday present, first ever Japanese Whisky that I have ever tasted.a surprisingly pleasant experience,a sweet taste on the palate, a hint of smoke, but only a hint ( great for me l don’t reckon to like peaty smokey whisky ) well recommended, give it a try ?
Tasted this as part of a blind tasting. Opinion was young, rough, not complex and almost certainly a blend of some pretty ordinary grain spirits and a bit of something more interesting to give it a bit of flavour
Sweet ripe plum and leather on the nose, with dramatic alcohol burst on the tongue with heavy grain notes lingering to just a hint of hay and burn.
