This Aussie whisky comes from the island state of Tasmania. When they are not being harassed by the Tasmanian devils they produce some of the best whisky being made south of the Equator at this moment. The whisky in this bottle was finished in French Oak Port Casks for a fruity flavour.
Melted dark chocolate and red wine gums open up a big fruity nose. Hints of anise, white pepper and coconut.
Jelly babies and a little more white pepper dominate the palate entry with cinnamon and a lick of fresh cut grass developing.
The finish is swift but substantial with fruitcake notes.
A full-bodied whisky that showcases what the Australians are doing well.
Tasted this fine flavor in Queensland on way to great barrier reef in Port Douglas, and it was like I died and went to heaven.
There were 18000 bottles of the 2014 winning year but how many left unopened who no, s but seen price at 495 so not many
I wonder how many of you realise that they only created about 1000 bottles of this stuff, and so of course once it became so popular it became incredibly scarce and hence the price went up dramatically.
Had the fortune of trying this and some other expressions at the distillery, at the pleasure of Patrick the head distiller. Was blown away with how good it was. The only thing to drink on a cold night.. so wonderfully rich. Thankfully I bought a bottle on my last trip to Tas, but soon afterward Sullivan's won some well earned recognition here and abroad and has sold out quick smart. Keep an eye on these guys and some of the other Tas distilleries who have only been up and running for a few years - once their whiskies mature a bit more I think the bar will be raised even higher.
Been looking around for bottle of this whisky read all the reviews on this site and saw price for it now at £295 so looks like price still going up must be good one
