This single malt from exciting Australian distillery, Starward, has been finished in ginger beer casks for a generous 12 months, that's twice as long as its #6 edition, imparting heaps of citrussy spice to the double pot distilled whisky, which also enjoyed some time in apera (that's a type of Australian fortified wine) and wine casks sourced from across the globe. A fantastic example of New World whisky making, this is one to sip by a crackling fire.
Yep, plenty of citrussy ginger, with waxy orange peel, and cocoa nibs.
Warming fresh ginger alongside more mellow, candied ginger, drizzles of vanilla syrup, and tropical fruit.
Baking spice, with sticky gingerbread.
The nose is on point...it smells very Gingerish, with dry orange peel. My hooman went "Oh WOW!" when he tasted it. This one he LIKES A LOT. There's the usual vanilla stuff , and a bit of mango...but its the ginger...it starts with the sort of candied ginger you expect in a whisky, but then there's a great big suckerpunch of ""GINGER BEER CROIKEY MATE!!!" that really comes out in the finish and is really unique. This is a whisky that isn't very complicated but it does what it does REALLY WELL
