Old Forester Bourbon

Old Forester Bourbon was the first to be sold in America in sealed glass bottles, to avoid any unsavoury folks tampering with their carefully-considered recipe. It was first seen on shelves back in 1870, and the rye-rich bourbon continues to be enjoyed today.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose

Top notes of orange blossom and cedar. Soon develops the classic rye bread warmth and a lingering waft of buttered pancakes.

Palate

Starts quite sweet with caramel and maple syrup, though swiftly develops intense oak-y elements and hints of pine resin. Sweetness returns slightly on the mid-palate.

Finish

Juicy orange and spicy oak continue on the finish.

Overall

Bourbon doesn't get made for over 140 years without it being pretty great, so it's unsurprising that Old Forester is, well, pretty darn great!

The worst Bourbon I have tried in some time

Cannot fathom the positive reviews here. For me this was a harsh, acrid and chemical tasting bourbon, with no delicate tones just abrasive harshness. I do not recommend, but each to their own ?

Bloody fantastic.

Superb! I love this and I’ve tried some pretty high end bourbons and ryes. Smooth and not overly sweet, excellent on the rocks and makes an epic Old Fashioned. Those who have only given this one star have either not tried it at all or your taste buds don’t work!!! It’s been around for 140 years for a reason.

One to buy again.

My first time drinking a Bourbon, other than nights out drinking Jack Daniels. I'm a Speyside single malt drinker normally, and this is a fair option for an American drink. I like it. Its smooth and just like the "nose, palate, description" above.

A Decent Bourbon at this price point.

I’ve tried most of the ‘popular’ Bourbon’s in my time and I find this to be a decent,mid-priced drink ,good with ice and a splash of water. I’m puzzled at some of the reviewers giving it a ‘1’ !

Awful

The worst bourbon Ive tried by some margin. This doesnt taste sweet, but it does have a chemical style taste. Very thin on initial sip, very little taste, no depth at all, added bonus of nasty aftertaste. I should note that this is also the cheapest bourbon Ive tried and I can see why. If you like Woodford, WT101, Four Roses SB, Elijah Craig SB, Makers Mark, or Petrol, this is not for you. Id say you get what you pay for except you can pick up Makers and Woodford for a couple more pounds and the difference is staggering.
