A fabulous bottle of Maker's Mark Kentucky bourbon which looks as though it would be right at home on Jay Gatsby's home bar. Crafted in batches of fewer than 20 bottles, Gold Label VIP releases allowed each bottle to be personalised - this particular one was bottled for Naomi Walters in February 2003. The whiskey is presented in bottles styled after an old 1870s bottling, dripping with decadent gold wax.

Fruity and rich. There are lovely notes of spiced honey and mixed peels, a little malmsey, hazelnut and a touch of cut fruit with toasty oak providing a backbone.
Rich and full. There are notes of rye and spice, barley malt, a little nut oil with butterscotch and vanilla.
Quite sweet with butterscotch and dry oak spice.

My brother in law brought me a Makers gold VIP about 10 years ago with my name on it. I am a bourbon collector and recently opened it and drank it. I miss it badly and even though I enjoyed it, I almost wish I hadn't opened it. I will hopefully get another one in the future and maybe repay the favor to him.
