Lot 40 Rye is a legendary Canadian rye whisky that is produced in a single copper pot still. At some point during the 2000s, Lot 40 Rye was discontinued, which caused quite a stir among whisky enthusiasts who considered it to be one of the best Canadian whiskies out there. Luckily, this delicious drop has been relaunched - so fill your boots!
Earthy rye kicks in right away, backed up by caramel, fig and flamed orange peel.
Softly floral as it opens, leading into cardamom pod and peppery coriander. Crunchy brown sugar and fresh vanilla pod sweetness.
Classic rye spiciness lingers.
My first Canadian rye, but not the first of rye. A forest distilled, fresh spicy wood all around. There is some sweetness on the nose and at the arrival, but it is quickly taken over by endless evergreen forest sap, spice. I immediately think of mountains and forests sipping on it. Not a single "bourbon" note in it, maybe apart of vanilla pod note in the empty glass. I hope it represents the Canadian rye style, amazing stuff.
great to see it back.. as good as ever, and may just be a bit better.. plenty vanilla, and a pepper finish... honey and vanilla inbetween. One of the best ryes around still and certainly the best value. gb
Hot black pepper and spicy . Caramel toffee and toast alm9st biscuit finish .
Hello People from Lot 40 : I think whatever alchemy you’ve concocted to produce the penultimate Canadian whiskey is your day of glory! I have been drinking whiskey for fifty years and you guys have nailed it! Merry Christmas and cheers for the New Year!’
Frustrates me that this website don't display Canadian whiskies more prominently; people are missing out as a result! This is one of my favourites. Tried it on a trip to Toronto once and have never gone back. Apple, pepper, a long spicy finish. Rye is the perfect winter warmer and this is one of the best.
