    Lagavulin 8 Year Old

After the wonderful reception that the Lagavulin 8 Year Old 200th Anniversary Edition received when it was released in 2016, the Islay-based distillers decided to add this delicious expression to their permanent core range! As Alfred Barnard (author of The Whisky Distilleries of the United Kingdom) said of an 8 year old Lagavulin in the 1880s, this stuff is "exceptionally fine".

If you feel like broadening your horizons and experiencing Lagavulin as you never have before, then we heavily recommend The Lagavulin Hot Chocolate. We know that this may not appeal to some, but honestly you really should give it a try because it's absolutely gorgeous. You can find a recipe for it right here.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Salted popcorn, honey-roasted nuts, tarry ropes and light hints of freshly-chopped cedar. A touch of burnt sugar sweetness lingers.

    Palate

Smokey peat appears first on the palate, followed by coriander seed, barley sugar, cumin powder, smoked kipper and marzipan.

    Finish

Layers of apple crumble, toasted almond and ash. Another kick of cooking spices right at the end.

Good - raw sharp and spicy I like it.

I really enjoyed this impression. Some will find it too raw, but to me this is a delicious antidote to all the overly sweet whiskeys on the market. It is nothing like the 16 but that is not a bad thing, it is just different.

    Solid through and through

No complaints whatsoever, head and shoulders above the over hyped Kilochman NAS money grabs. Anyone that is into Islay and tells you this isn’t up there with Ardbeg 10, Port Charlotte and Springbank 12 is lying ;)

    Bland

I was interested to see what people thought about this whisky so I looked back on past reviews, I’m a massive fan of both the lagavulin 16 and the ardbeg 10 and to compare this whisky to those two power houses is in my opinion sacrilege. The lagavulin 8 is at best a very average dram, pale, slight sweetness, slight Smoke nothing to get excited about, in my opinion …….bland, lagavulin 16 blows it out of the water.

Use it to light fires, don't drink it.

An unpleaseant splash of fuel oil with a biting assault of javex thrown in and a panicky lingering after taste of being poisoned. What the hell? Was sure something was wrong with it especially with the milky white toxic appearance. Was heading straight back to LCBO with 'defective product' until reading other reviews. I'm a seasoned scotch taster with Lagavulin 16 one of my favourites, so don't tell me I don't get it.. admittedly I DON'T understand though...

    Amazing Youngens

This is great! Sweet, sour, ashy and a bit oaky too.... that’s what i get at least. Oh and that burned top of a creme brullee.... Don’t compare this to the 16 please.... it’s something else for someone else... I compared it to Ardbeg Wee Beastie which is more earthy and would say the L is a tiny bit more my cuppa than the A. And this comes from an Ardbeg fanboy... Ziveli!
