    Lagavulin 8 Year Old

After the wonderful reception that the Lagavulin 8 Year Old 200th Anniversary Edition received when it was released in 2016, the Islay-based distillers decided to add this delicious expression to their permanent core range! As Alfred Barnard (author of The Whisky Distilleries of the United Kingdom) said of an 8 year old Lagavulin in the 1880s, this stuff is "exceptionally fine".

If you feel like broadening your horizons and experiencing Lagavulin as you never have before, then we heavily recommend The Lagavulin Hot Chocolate. We know that this may not appeal to some, but honestly you really should give it a try because it's absolutely gorgeous. You can find a recipe for it right here.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Salted popcorn, honey-roasted nuts, tarry ropes and light hints of freshly-chopped cedar. A touch of burnt sugar sweetness lingers.

    Palate

Smokey peat appears first on the palate, followed by coriander seed, barley sugar, cumin powder, smoked kipper and marzipan.

    Finish

Layers of apple crumble, toasted almond and ash. Another kick of cooking spices right at the end.

    Very tasty

Kind of a mix of caol Ila 12 and bowmore 12. Lots of peat, ash, sweetness but also more of a kipper taste. Tarry ropes, kind of see the spices side, long finish which isn’t overpowering. Nice and light Ila

    Not ace.

I love Islay whisky, but this just tastes of smoke and pepper and little else. It's not a patch on the 16 year old, or on Ardbeg 10yo, which is quite a bit cheaper. You could pick up a bottle of Uigeadail for the same price, or Laphroaig Cask Strength 10 a bit more, both of which are truly excellent Islays. I enjoy the smoke, but it gets a bit boring when there's not a lot else going on. Disappointing.

The Modern Gem of the Lagavulin distillery.

One for the true Islay enthusiast. Completely different to Lagavulin 16, thank goodness! Diageo very much have their finger on the quality with this release. ??

    A classic Islay. Recommended.

I was once told by someone who knew more about Scotch than I ever will: If I like the strong, peaty whiskies, buy them in the 6 to 8 year range. Before they mellow. Lagavulin 8 Year Old ticks all the boxes. Strong peatiness without being harsh, and an ABV that gives it a mild burn.

    Not worth it

Had a couple of bottle of original 16 yr old & they were superb. Tried this 8 yr old & it is no comparison. Not really nice. Much better Islay at a much lower cost.
