    Single Malt

    Scarabus

Sourced from an undisclosed Islay distillery comes Scarabus, a single malt from Hunter Laing launched for Fèis Ìle 2019. Scarabus means ‘rocky place’ in Old Norse, named after a mystical area of Islay. The whole expression is quite mysterious, from the secretive distillery to the golden symbols adorning the bottle. A very handsome bottling housing delicious Islay whisky.

    I absolutely love it!

Excellent! Very easy to drink. I guess from the previous reviews - you love it or you hate it. I absolutely love it!

    Atmosphere of campfire.

Exceptional Whiskey of its class, where the atmosphere of a campfire emerges when you taste this Whiskey.

    Very nice, very reasonably priced

Personally thought this was very nice, quite a soft smoke to it not one to blast your face off but still there. Nice nose, very good palate and a good finish. Is it the best Islay I've ever had? No, but it's a damn good dram, and at this price I'm not quite sure were anyone's getting a better Islay dram from. Definitely worth a go, for the price a no brainer. p.s. If I was taking a punt as to which distillery this is from I'd guess Cao Ila, there is a softness and subtle nature that is very reminiscent of Cao Ila for me.

    Ok

An overpriced entry to Islay. Glad I tried but not again!

A great value introduction to Islay Single Malt

Bourbon cask vanilla sweetness and maritime smoky peat? Wonderful stuff from Hunter Laing here. As it's an undisclosed distillery, my guess would be a Caol Ila. It is a delicious dram. I've recommended it to many as a great Islay dram that doesn't extort the high premiums that many other bottlers demand. Lovely design too. If Compass Box were selling a bottle this pretty, you'd expect to pay at least £100, and that would be for a lesser dram. At £38, it's an absolute steal, you won't find a tastier Islay malt for that price.
