Created using triple-distilled single malt from the Great Northern Distillery in County Louth, Ireland that was aged in bourbon casks for three years, this Nomad edition was then transferred to Bodegas González Byass where it is popped into oloroso sherry casks previously used to mature the González Byass Alfonso. The maturation takes a year before the whiskey is bottled up at 41.3% ABV.
Crème brûlée, toasted spices, oily walnuts, sweet pears, and gingerbread.
Drying spice leads to fruitcake, vanilla, wine-stained oak, orange peel, and dark chocolate.
Long and elegant.
Incredible that this is only 4 years old - really shows what the chaps at Great Northern Distillery can do. Full bodied and rich, but subtly balanced with the whiskey not being overtaken by the fruity dry sherry notes. I get something different with every sip, from toasted coconut flakes, gingerbread, dried fruit and even glimmers of lemon zest. Mixes really well too. Great value.
Not bad at all but not as good as the original Outlander I thought I'd ordered! I do like an Irish Whiskey but this is not on my buy again list unfortunately.
