Sorry about this...

We can't actually ship The Glenrothes 2001 to the United States at the moment (although we're working hard to fix that).

In the meantime, our friends over at The Whisky Shop might be able to help you out.

The Glenrothes 2001 Bottling Note

This edition of the Glenrothes range is their 2001 vintage single malt Scotch comes in the Speyside company's redesigned packaging. Ronnie Cox, the director at Berry Bros. & Rudd calls it "...complete and complex integrity in a glass." No wonder he's proud of it when it's so darn tasty!

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Cereal notes, warm and malty, with suggestions of orange, cherry and caramel underneath.

Palate: Orange comes to the foreground first, vanilla following shortly after. A tiny, spicy hint of apples dusted with cinnamon towards the end.

Finish: Fairly long and dry, the spice lingering.

Overall: As ever with Glenrothes' vintages, this is some top notch whisky.

Glenrothes 2001 Reviews

Best of the best

Now THIS is whisky at its best. Wonderful vintage. Vanilla and melon and some citrus with some spice at the end. This one tastes as good as it smells. It delivers in droves. By far the best Glenrothes I’ve had in a long long tine

Vintage Glenrothes

An absolutely excellent bottle, and sadly one of the last of now defunct vintages line. I’d forgotten just how great this was until I compared it to the new soleo range, and honestly it’s not even close. This is silky and full of lovely caramel, vanilla and cherry. It’s long lasting and just a wonderful day to cap a long day. Definitely worth buying a case or maybe two cases

Not for me

Have a nice banana and orange start, with a vanilla in the back. However, has an awful taste of burnt rubber in the middle and finishes with sour notes. Has a good complexity and harmony, but it is not for me.

Too smooth and sweet for me, but its a nice dram

Great Glenrothes

Quite good for semi experienced whisky drinker

Quite good I think for the money. Well worth a try if you are a wine drinker as sherry is quite evident. This whisky is also matured in Spanish oak casks which are known to be one of the most expensive casks for maturation. Definitely not a starter malt for people who are unfamiliar with vintage bottling and on the palate quite firey and bitter however leaves a very warm finish and nothing of short.

Not bad at all...

I too purchased the three bottle variety pack (same as Meh, net). Interestingly, I had made of the same notes: I didn't get the baked apple pie and I DID get the sweet and peppery (not fiery hot though) on the palate. I also detected some hints of chocolate and marzipan. I think my experience was slightly better though as I gave it 3 1/2 stars…but I guess you've seen that. :) Will have a second tasting in a day or two to see what else is lurking in there...

A good friend gave me a bottle of 1992 vintage. It is wonderful and meets most of the qualities described above. A cherished dram.

Very Good

Not so long ago Glenrothes made a very good first impression. It was something different after decades of Islay ruling my taste. Dram by dram it revealed vivid and yet subtle notes. Now after numerous bottles it is one of my favourites in this price range. I make sure to have a few bottles at hand all the time. Many of my guests have fallen in love with it and made it permanent part of their selection too.

Meh, neh

I got a bottle of this and the 1998 in the three little bottle variety pack. I was disappointed with my purchase. The bottles were cheap little screw tops. I really like Springbank's little cork bottles, those are classy. But not these. The 2001 did not have baked apple pie and cereal notes to me. It was thin, fiery hot, and fairly bitter with some sweet swirling around in the glass like oil in a mud puddle. Not my kinda whisky. I think I'm turning into a whisky snob. This stuff is just not old enough to pass muster.
