Glenburgie 7 Year Old 2009 (cask 12091) - Clan Denny (Douglas Laing)

This is a 7 year old single malt Scotch whisky from the Glenburgie distillery in the Speyside region, where it began maturing in November 2009. Douglas Laing bottled the whisky in August 2017 for its Clan Denny range, with an out-turn of 433 bottles, and typical of the brilliant indie-range, it's non-chill filtered and of natural colour.

    Not sure .... at first

Just after opening, I tried a dram and wasn't sure there as much to enjoy with this whisky. I put it in my cupboard to try again later. Out it came again after a week or so and I experimented with amounts of water and found it could take a fair amount - it is 48% after all. I began to enjoy the sweetish vanilla counterbalanced by a bitterness (depending on the amount of water) and savoured the very long perfumey finish, reminding me of some excellent Glendullan I had enjoyed years ago. In the end, then, I have come to the conclusion that this is a decent whisky and will enjoy what's left of the bottle - sadly not that much after all my 'sampling'!
