    Blended

King Of Scots The Peated Edition (Douglas Laing)

Douglas Laing's super value blended Scotch whisky gets a smoky makeover here thanks to the master blender pairing sweet single grain whiskies with a high proportion of whisky from predominately Islay distilleries.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Rich, earthy smoke drifts through golden barley, honey, and apple peel.

    Palate

Charred oak and campfire ash are balanced by butterscotch and citrus.

    Finish

    Vanilla and oak spice linger.

A blend? More like a bland amirite?

This is such a poor whisky. It reminds me why I hated blends before I had more of an educatoin into scotch. Uninspiring, bland, still waiting for the whiff of smoke to get here. Take a naff bourbon and pour it into a glass used for bad scotch and yo have this abomination. Drank it in a field and really considered not finishing it.

Cheap and a little bit mid.

Vanilla, toasted fruitcake, and butterscotch on the nose. Bourbon in the mouth. The faint echo of peaty smoke in the aftertaste. Cheap and cheerful. Well, not so cheerful but cheap and fine sounds less good. Pretty cheap though, and as I'm saving for a scottish adventure next week it didn't break the bank for wolf hunt this weekend. Hopefully the campfire and company will redeem it.

    Peated blend

A young Peated blend. I appreciate a mature peated Islay. This expression has some good peated Islay charecterists. As a young blended whisky, one cannot expect a true aged single malt peated Islay experience. However, at this price point, in my opinion, this is worthy of consideration for anyone who enjoys a peated dram, at a reasonable level of cost. Of course there are many expressions of peated whisky at other price points, that we may prefer. Each to his own.

    Nice and affordable

This was a pleasant surprise. It is definitely a young and affordable whisky, however the Islay whisky makes it stand out from other peated offerings in the market that just taste bland. This has a certain depths and complexity that you would associate with whisky of a higher price point. Nose: Iodine, band-aids, fireplace ash, eucaliptus Palate: Butter, seaweed, wet ash and a little bit of tasteless sweetness Finish: Sugar syrup, distant smoke (very light)

    Top value sweet and peat.

Great value and definitely worth trying if you appreciate a blend. I enjoyed it neat and with a drip of water. Is it worth five stars? Yes, on value alone: for this price, you don't expect something so smooth and rich. I'll be ordering again.
