A peated single malt whisky from Ireland. Winner of numerous international plaudits - this truly is a great effort from distillers, Cooley.
Lemony and fresh. Quite light, oily peat which melds with a deft touch of light apple and pear, a hint of custard, and creamy malt.
Sweet, fizzy almost, with rustic, earthy peat, atop rhubarb and custard sweets, cream, malt and granary toast with melted butter. Smoky too, like a driftwood on fire.
Light finish, medium length, some vanilla and tangy fruit with traces of oily smoke and spice.
£4.85 - £32.90
They knocked it out of the park with the 12 yr! The fruitiness comes out followed closely by some really smooth smoke.
Lovely on ice, zesty with a bite of pear drops. Smooth like most Irish with a nice mild earthiness. If Laphroaig is a 10 and Lagavulin an 8, this is a 5.5.
Best thing ive tasted, love the good ol' tank of the peated bliss. 10/10 was so excited, drank most of it as soon as it arrived. Incredibly smooth, a few drops of water to balance that sweetness you look for.
Seems to be an acquired taste. Smooth yet “earthy,” a slight burn on first taste, then a sweetness and a slightly sweet aftertaste.
It plays out on the tongue, nose and palette exactly as described above. I took 2 tastings. The first was straight out of the bottle in an open glass rather than the shifter. I wanted it open and less pungent. The second sample was over clear ice for slight deletion. The pete taste was consistent through both samplings. The clear ice weakened the whiskey a little too much for me. But it was refreshing when chilled. Those who like mild Pete will like this one. Those trying for the first time will be enamored with a fine introduction.
