Chief's Son 5 Year Old - (That Boutique-y Whisky Company)
Located near Melbourne on Australia's Mornington Peninsula, the Chief's Son micro-distillery was set up in 2016 by husband and wife Stuart and Naomi McIntosh, after an inspirational visit to Scotland. With an annual capacity of just 5,000 litres, it's not often you'll come across whisky from Chief's Son, but the gang at That Boutique-y Whisky Company managed to get their hands on an impressive batch here. Distilled with wash sourced from the nearby Mornington Peninsula Brewery, the whisky is matured for five years in a cask that previously held the sherry-like Australian Apera wine. This bottle joins That Boutique-y Whisky Company's Return to Oz collection, can you spot the deadly animal lurking on the label?
Batch 1 is a release of 462 bottles.
That Boutique-y Whisky Company bottles limited edition whiskies from a variety of renowned distilleries as well as producing award-winning blends. These whiskies are adorned with cultish graphic novel-style labels.
Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt
Nose
Rich roasted barley, buttered malt loaf, and toasted oak lead the way, with woody spice and a sweet touch of grenadine in tow. Smoke lingers in the distance, joined by anise and a touch of tobacco.
Palate
Generous waves of treacly toffee, grilled peaches, and prunes, cushion a layer of elegant earthen smoke, while peppery oak and clove simmer in the background.
Finish
The spices linger on the finish, with a vegetal note of dark chocolate mint thins and smoked nuts.
