Black Bottle
Scotland
Blended
One of two initial releases in the Black Bottle Alchemy Series, Double Cask brings together malt whiskies finished in Spanish sherry casks with grain whisky aged in red wine casks. Boasting heavy red fruit influence, though well balanced by subtle whiffs of toasted sugar and savoury nuts, this should make for a great late evening dram. A great start to the Black Bottle Alchemy Series, alongside the Island Smoke expression.
Blackcurrant, damson, Seville orange, walnut and coffee cake.
Cherry and raspberry, with a layer of vanilla cream. Softly spicy and warming.
Toasted brown sugar, runny toffee, a final hint of red berry brightness.
Okay, so as the saying goes, you get what you pay for. I had to refer to the tasting notes on this site to have any chance of identifying notes, as they are weak. This is a very mild Whisky, no complexity and in my opinion, bland. However it is cheap and an easy drink for sure. Everyone has different tastes of course.
Having drunk Black Bottle for several years, I approached the Double Cask with confidence and high hopes. I was not disappointed. Melding the deep redolence of Malt and Sherry with the sharper Grain and Red Wine makes for a potent mix, and I'm not simply talking about it's 46.3%. If this is what the Alchemy Series can do, I look forward to the others. Bring it on. Quite simply, if you don't buy this, then all the more for me.
The alchemists in the at Black Bottle have cooked up a stunner - red fruits, a little zesty citrus and bags of toffee. Value, quality and sippability - an absolute no brainer!
This Whisky is non-chill filtered and comes in at 46.3 ABV. The tasting notes are spot on with the Seville oranges. For the price its another Black bottle winner.
