A Japanese blended whisky that has been the subject of some controversy. The bottling for the home market in Japan is made with malt whisky and molasses spirit, which would not be classed as 'whisky' in the EU. This export version, however, is made from malt and grain whiskies.
Buttered hot cross buns, chocolate peanuts, lemongrass and a light hint of spicy rye grain.
Cherry bakewells and walnut loaf. Sweet cereals with a dusting of nutmeg and black pepper.
Medium length. Quite sweet with dried apricot and a touch of oatcake.
Let it breathe, let it breathe. Very simple taste not much nose but pleasant to taste
Really surprised and delighted by the taste. I love single malt Whisky and this is a very nice drink indeed
Started exploring the Japanese whiskies and enjoy Nikka from the Barrel and Nikka Days. This is a disappointment. Thin on palate, nose has nothing. Partly Scotch whisky mixed with Japanese whisky. Will not buy again.
This whisky retails at 10$ here in Japan and I think it’s a great option at that price. But paying 3-4 times that price can’t be justified compared to good scotch blends. That’s the thing with Japanese whisky. At the Japanese price it’s a good option, but more than that and you’re better off with the still unrivaled selection that Scotland has to offer!
Quite delicate after it's had a second to breathe in the glass. But it definitely needs that breathing time.
