A spectacular starter Mezcal for those looking to get into the traditional spirit, QuiQuiRiQui Matatlan Mezcal is a grandstand of classic flavours, from smoky to sugary sweet, from earthy notes to a peppery finish. Made in Matatlan, which is known as the "World Capital of Mezcal", using Espadin agave and double distillation, it's a perfect introduction to the drink, like a warm handshake and a cheeky smile.
Sweet, vegetal notes with earthy elements and stone fruits, wrapped up in a bonfire smoke with a sprinkling of black pepper.
It doesn’t have the finesse of Del Maguey, but it’s one of the most versatile mescals you can find. It works as a smokey sip, but completely excels in mixed drinks - so much better than a reposado in so many: 21st Century; Loaded Pistol, Smoky Margarita to name just three.
I'm a big fan of this Mezcal. Smooth, woody and smokier than Del Maguey Vida which is fruitier and brighter. They're both good, but quite different. It all comes down to personal taste.
Many better alternatives out there at a similar price - Alipus , Del Maguey, Pierde almas for example. Lacks the substance, the depth of something like a Del Maguey Vida and I don't buy into this ' good introduction to Mezcal' malarkey like one is about to set foot into a brave new world. 2/5 for me.
Ignore the review below ("not for me"). I found this little number exactly as I hoped: herbaceous, earthy and smoky, but not too smoky. It's a great introductory expression of Mezcal, with a good dose of pepper and plenty of bold flavours. Perfect for neat sipping or mixed in a cocktail. And at this price point, you can't go wrong.
@not for me You've just (thinly) described a fair number of Mezcal... perhaps Mezcal is not for you. As noted, great for mixing, as the strong flavors stand out (and up) to your mixers.
