Under the watchful eye of fourth generation Master Distiller Juan Carlos Gonzalez Diaz, Corte Vetusto Espadín Mezcal is produced. Before distillation, the agave is cooking in traditional earthen pit ovens, with mesquite specially chosen to heat said ovens for the flavours it imparts on the final spirit. This particular expression is made using the Espadín variety of agave - a favourite of Mezcal producers across Mexico. The spirit is double distilled before bottling at 45% ABV.
Earthy and subtly meaty smoke, with a prickle of black pepper and cooked sweet peppers.
Subtly creamy at points, with robust wafts of smoke maintaining dominance of the palate.
Flinty minerals, and a touch of vegetal oak.

I have yet to taste a better mescal than the del maguey single village san luis del Rio bottle. If you’re looking for smokiness that’s your tipple. The one above despite saying ‘smoked’ doesn’t taste it. It’s way too much of a hit, similar to drinking a really cheap vodka. Totally fine in a cocktail, but undrinkable alone. Avoid and spend your money on the Del Maguey. You won’t be disappointed.
Unbelievable value for the price. Only £25-30 more than other good value brands; but easily on a par with ‘high end’, very expensive bottles. My new go to brands alongside Vida, Verde and Koch (which still makes me laugh ?)!
A rare treat. Save this for my Chesterfield when the chores are done. Quality is often recognised through the opinions of others but I can assure you this is another level and as soon as it goes down, you know.
Highly recommended. This has a smoky smooth taste which I really enjoy. Great to have on its own, on the rocks or with a little water.
Best mezcal I've tasted and I've done a hell of a lot of tasting around Mexico.
