The Casamigos brand – created by George Clooney, Rande Gerber and Mike Meldman – first made a splash on the Tequila scene. But now the folks at Casamigos have expanded their portfolio with their first mezcal.
This joven (unaged) artesanal mezcal is made from 100% espadin agave and was crafted in collaboration with a family that has been making mezcal for five generations in Santiago Matatlán, Oaxaca, Mexico. The piñas are cooked in earthen pits lined with volcanic rock and crushed using a tahona. After a long fermentation, the mezcal is twice distilled using copper pot stills. It's super smoky, herbaceous, and very delicious.
Through a rush of smoke and aromatic herbs, there are hints of cucumber, exotic fruit and white pepper.
had this couple of times and surprised by other reviews. Its definitely smoky and not for the faint hearted, but is incredibly smooth…may have a slice of lime and ice, but great mezcal.
I've read lots of reviews and it saddens me when people go on about Clooney and the price. I found the product more than acceptable with lots of pepper and smoke. Good in the mouth and a decent finish. No product suits everyone but don't follow the crowd re celebrity take downs.
The bottle may look cool, but the mezcal is really not good. MoM site has some really excellent mezcals - this definitely isn't one of them
Extremely smooth, but can't taste anything much but the smoke. A few drinks and the smoke dissipates and it's nice enough. Makes me think diageo wanted to sell ans Islay tequila and forgot what makes good whiskey good and it isn't just peat. Maybe it works for fancy cocktails in place of smoked ice. I think the smoke overpowers it. I did think there was something wrong, did i catch Covid? Did the oil the machines that day? But no, they approved that taste. I'd buy their tequila based on this, as it is super smooth, but i am disappointed.
Don't be fooled by the celebrity name behind this - it is the worst mezcal I've ever tried. It tastes like rotten wood.
