Cointreau is a 'triple-sec' liqueur made from sweet and bitter orange peels. An essential ingredient in Margaritas, Cosmopolitans, and many a classic cocktail, but very good on its own or over ice too.
Cointreau is produced in Angers, France. Cointreau Distillery was founded in 1849 by Edouard Cointreau, son of French confectioner Jean-Baptiste Cointreau. The Cointreau family sold the company to Remy Cointreau in 1990.
Fancy shaking up some delicious Margaritas? Try out the recipe below!
30ml Cointreau
50ml Tequila
20ml Fresh lime juice
Salt the rim of your glass, and add everything to a shaker with ice. Don't hold back on that shaking – you want those drinks nice and chilled! Strain into the glass, garnish with a lime wheel, and hey presto – it's Margarita time!
Fresh orange peels, and a very subtle whisper of mint leaf. Warming caramel develops later on.
If so, we have yet to find it. And we’ve tried a few. Perfect with ice.
A good partner to Grand Marnier
