Montenegro
A classic Italian liqueur made with a wide (though secret) selection of herbs and spices, Amaro Montenegro is bittersweet and makes for a fantastic after-dinner tipple. Originally created in 1885, it was named after the second Queen of Italy, Elena of Montenegro.

Never had it before. Saw it on the menu and ordered it. Smoky orange herby slightly bitter digestive. Loved it for its full flavours and reduced sweetness.
Io amo il chinotto e mi sembra un chinotto alcolico ….
Think of a bitter herby, slightly smoky amaretto. I had this on the rocks and it was fab but I am loving the sound of it and orange juice.
Have tried a number of Amaros but keep returning to Montenegro which has an excellent alcohol balance, unlike a lot of others which are stronger alcoholically.
Classic Italian bitter, I prefer these straight and in a shot glass. Really dry finish and complex flavours.
